Wardens are the four races that the elemental Primordial Spirits created as warriors to fight for them in the Great Erosion. They are known collectively as the warden races.

The fighting ended when Umalyu created the Enarei, beings more powerful than the Wardens, who stopped the conflict. Afterwards the Namuril withdrew with Yairan to the Domain of Yairan, where they are presumed still to live.
