SignificanceMid-route observation and recovery post along the northern overland passage into Sanctuary Vale

Lun-Kadar is a field outpost located on the central stretch of the overland corridor between Tharn Gate and Varn-Telai. Positioned near the outer edge of the Fractured Wedge, the station provides rest and observation facilities for patrol teams, convoy units, and field engineers monitoring shifts in terrain stability. It is not a permanent settlement but maintains a fixed garrison presence and staging capability.

Geography

The outpost sits on a raised platform of flat stone partially sheltered by a recessed ridge. The surrounding terrain is uneven and fractured, with open exposures to prevailing winds and visible stress lines in the southern ground. Structures are low-built and reinforced, anchored to deep bedrock to reduce impact from surface tremors or erosion.

History

Lun-Kadar was established after the formal completion of the eastern pass wall at Tharn-Gate. Increased patrol range and route maintenance required a midpoint station for personnel recovery and resupply. It was expanded to include minor relay infrastructure and observation capacity as traffic volumes increased and surface risks were better understood.

Functions and Features

  • Patrol Bunkers – Compact, stone-lined resting shelters with minimal amenities.
  • Field Relay – Signal array used to communicate status updates to Tharn-Gate and Tor-Kelai.
  • Storage Vaults – Weather-sealed chambers containing basic provisions and emergency supplies.
  • Elevated Marker – A reinforced post with environmental instruments for temperature and ground shift tracking.

Culture and Ritual

Interaction at Lun-Kadar is minimal and task-focused. Personnel rotate in shifts and follow a strict silence protocol during rest cycles. Field notes are logged at the end of each watch, and communication with passing groups is standardized through signal tags.

Defenses and Watch

The outpost is not built for combat but includes observation tiers and physical barriers to discourage approach from non-cleared directions. Local Stonewardens maintain a watch position at all hours, and interior structures are constructed to withstand brief shelter-in-place situations during field disruption events.

Threats and Dangers

Frequent risks include wind shear, unstable ground near southern slopes, and disorientation due to terrain uniformity during low light. Surface fissures occasionally widen, requiring route re-mapping. The site has not recorded conflict or incursion but is part of the wider defensive perimeter managed from Mar-Thal.
