Location | Eastern Sanctuary Vale |
Realm | Terasil |
Inhabitants | Orasian |
Significance | Primary observation and research site for tectonic study in the Fractured Wedge region |
Controlled by | Council of Stone |
Varn-Telai is a field-oriented settlement established within the central zone of the Fractured Wedge, a geologically unstable region south of Lun-Kadar. It functions as the primary center for tectonic research, surface behavior monitoring, and applied fault analysis within the northern approaches to Sanctuary Vale. The settlement is maintained by technical personnel under the Council of Stone and is supported by structured supply routes from Mar-Thal and Tharn Gate.
Geography
The settlement is positioned atop a stabilized stone shelf overlooking a stretch of exposed fault lines and fragmented ridges. Structures are distributed across reinforced slabs, separated by seismic buffers and anchored using pressure-dampening pylons. Movement between sectors is limited to marked paths to avoid stress fractures. The area is dry, subject to high wind exposure, and prone to localized ground shifts.
History
Varn-Telai was established following the initial mapping of the Fractured Wedge. The region’s active geology required ongoing analysis, particularly as overland traffic increased between the Citadel Mountains and the Khargaath corridor. Initial research shelters evolved into permanent installations, followed by housing units and survey platforms.
Notable Locations
- North Span – Administrative and coordination block, includes archive logs and transmission relay.
- Ridge Sector – Primary geological platform where fault activity is recorded and analyzed.
- South Barracks – Modular stone dwellings used by seasonal and rotational personnel.
- Surface Grid – A field of fixed markers and calibration devices used for visual tracking of micro-movements.
Culture and Society

Personnel at Varn-Telai operate on rotational shifts, with housing and assignments structured by project duration. Social activity is limited, and most interaction occurs within assigned sectors. Movement outside of marked paths is prohibited without clearance due to terrain variability.
Spiritual Significance
The settlement functions as a research and monitoring site only. No formal observances are held.
Economy
Varn-Telai does not conduct trade or resource production. All materials are imported on a fixed cycle. Data gathered from the region is transmitted to central archives for review and long-term planning purposes.
Defense and Military
Minimal defense capacity. The site is monitored by a small watch rotation with signal capability to Tor-Kelai and Lun-Kadar. Sealing protocols exist in case of structural compromise or surface failure.
Dangers and Threats
Risks include surface collapse, dust shear, seismic surges, and exposure to high-wind shifts. Access is restricted during active event windows. All personnel are trained in shelter-in-place procedures and path re-mapping protocol.
