Introduction

The Western Lowlands is a region in Balúrail that encompasses about half of the realm. The region is known for its vast swamps and as the center of Tuzquão civilization. It is home to both the capital of the League of Balúrail, Têr, and its largest city, Ivaiê.

History

Pre-Human Times

During the great war of erosion, Balúrail's western lowlands were inundated. Yairan's plan to harden the earth backfired, creating a vast network of swamps and lakes that persist to this day. Here the Ascendant Spirit Tahami first emerged as the spirit of swamps and bogs. He made his home in this region, and over time the Mifajene, who also built their civilization here, lived peacefully for hundreds of years before the Tuzquão arrived in 201 ME.

Early Tuzquão Civilization

Tuzquão first arrived in what is now the town of Saindo, located in southwestern Balúrail. From here, they rapidly expanded outwards, encompassing most of the Western Lowlands. There, Tuzquão quickly adapted to the swampy conditions and learned to build on the uneven terrain. Here, they also began to be influenced by the ascendant spirit of Mavai, which has served as their main spiritual influence since then.

Geography

Lowlands are largely peat bogs with patches of solid ground interspersed between them. Light forests also dot the region. The land is fertile and supports Tuzquão agriculture.

Cities

The western lowlands are home to most of the Tuzquão's largest cities. Ivaiê, Têr, Ezinco, and Lusbá are all located within the lowlands.

Climate

The Western Lowlands have a cold climate, with frequent freezing spells.

Flora

Mitratas - A fungus that grows on the borders of swamps. It releases spores that can invade a victim, killing them slowly. Often cultivated for poison.

Impherals - A flowering plant that is noted for its flaming flower petals that release heat.

Sphagnac - A peat that makes up the vast majority of swamps in the Western Lowlands.

Patho Fruit- A valuable plant that's known for its healing properties.

Fauna

Lersumon - A large bird that is known for its ability to swim rapidly underwater.

Oimãos - A lizard creature; it has a venomous bite.

Quelotoxes - A large insect. Territorial and known to attack people.

Aerbicars - Large peaceful mammals who make the swamps their homes. They have wide hooves that allow them to walk on the peat bogs.

Oeinsos - Deer-like creatures. Herbivores. Hunted regularly for food.

Government and Politics

The Western Lowlands are under the control of the League of Balúrail, the main government for the Tuzquão people.

Administrative Districts

Administrative districts within the Western Lowlands are the states of Ezinco, Ivaiê, most of the state of Gostiria, the District of Têr and the Mifajene Reservation.

Demographics

The dominant demographic in the Western Lowlands is the Tuzquão people, with a sizable Mifajene population located on the reservation. Immigrants from other realms make up a small portion of the population in the major cities.

Transportation

Transportation in the Western Lowlands is by a patchwork network of roads and by boat. Because of the land's swampy nature and frequently impassable terrain, Balúrail has no rail lines. And travel between districts is sometimes challenging.
