Introduction

The Path of Tñarilu is the branch of Osia that works with the spirits of light associated with Tñarilu, the Primordial Spirit of light. Its practitioners, known as disciples of the Path of Tñarilu, use it for illumination, guidance and protection. The path has many adherents.

History

Humans took up the Path of Tñarilu after the Great Migration. Once the Ascendant Spirits had taught them the methods of Osia, humans began to work with the spirits of the Primordial Spirits, and the Path of Tñarilu was one of the first paths they followed.

Principles

The Path of Tñarilu is the study of light in two senses: physical light, and the clarity and revelation that light brings. Both are central to the path, though clarity and revelation are often held to be the more valuable. Its disciples learn to perceive the spirits of light, to understand them, and to work with them, following the three principles of Attunement.

Spiritual Hierarchy

  • Nascent Spirits are found in simple, flickering lights. Disciples learn to command them first, in training and in minor rituals.
  • Mature Spirits are found in enduring sources of light, such as the light of hearths, lighthouses and sacred flames. Disciples must negotiate with them.
  • Ancestral Spirits are found in celestial and mythic sources of light, such as the sun. They seldom heed mortals, and only the most advanced disciples attempt to approach them.

Training and Attunement

The Path of Tñarilu is taught by schools and orders in many places, and its disciples hold the usual ranks of the Osiari. Training begins with Nascent Spirits and simple work with reflection and illumination. As they progress, disciples learn to negotiate with Mature Spirits under the guidance of a teacher. Master disciples may attempt brief attunements with Ancestral Spirits, and do so with great caution.
