From Adaris

Working reference for the real-world philosophers behind the thinkers and schools of each culture of Adaris. The real-world names here are for guidance only and are never named on the wiki itself. Under the timeline rule, an ME year is roughly the real-world year minus 1000.

Tuzquão (League of Balúrail)

Sorris Elirilde

Model: Søren Kierkegaard (Denmark, 1813–1855), so active in the 840s–850s ME. The name is a Tuzquês rendering of the same idea: Sorris, "strict" (as Søren is linked to "stern"), and Elirilde, "beside the church" (as Kierkegaard is "churchyard").

  • Masks: published most of his works under pseudonyms, each a separate invented author with a different point of view. Philosophy in masks, suited to Mavai's people.
  • Indirect communication: the most important truths cannot be stated outright; each person must come to them for themselves. Matches the Tuzquão tension between secrecy and seeking the truth, and the popularity of mystery stories.
  • Faith and the single individual: each person's own commitment of faith. Fits Parethism, in which each believer's communion adds to the afterlife.

Parethist theology

Model: Blaise Pascal, especially the hidden God (Deus absconditus): God is real but not plainly visible, and must be sought. Suits a faith whose afterlife is unfinished and not yet seen.

Underground political thought

Models: Baruch Spinoza (the Theological-Political Treatise, published anonymously; freedom of thought) and writing between the lines: works with an ordinary surface and a concealed argument, written to pass the censors.
