Introduction
The Yeege Peninsula is the mountainous northern end of Gosterra. It is the homeland of the Zapaha, a small winged people created by the Ascendant Spirit Ettal, and is governed by their kingdom, Yeege. The Yeege Mountains separate it from the rest of Gosterra, and it has never been settled by humans.
History
The Zapaha were created by Ettal, the Ascendant Spirit of cliffs and shores, during the Age of Ascendance, and have lived on the cliffs of the peninsula ever since. Nenye Nuuxoo became the seat of their queens in 1000 BME.
When humans landed in Gosterra in the Great Migration in 0 ME, relations between them and the Zapaha were tense but peaceful, and the two have never been at war. Humans have never settled the peninsula. Its mountains make it hard to reach, and a conquest would be costly: the Zapaha defend their land with Osia, among other means, and Ettal is fiercely protective of it. Humans have also been reluctant to make war on so small a people.
Geography
The Yeege Peninsula extends northeast from central Gosterra. The Yeege Mountains form its backbone; their peaks include Mount Guse, Mount Meena and Mount Croan, which stands on the southern border with the Kingdom of Bóinbile. The coasts are lined with cliffs, on which most Zapaha settlements are built. The northernmost point of the peninsula is Point Cell. Offshore lie the islands of Pappii, Luupe and Alloo.
The House of Ettal, the home of Ettal, stands in the north of the peninsula, in the Duchy of Kappee.
Goverment and Politcs
The peninsula is governed by Yeege, a monarchy of the Zapaha under a single queen, currently Nyekee Dhenne of the Dhenne Dynasty. Its capital is Nenye Nuuxoo. The kingdom is divided into three duchies: Kappee in the north, Edhaa in the east and Eluu in the west. Each duchy is governed by a senior Zapaha on behalf of the queen.
Economy
The Zapaha are skilled farmers, and their cliff gardens and orchards are tended by large numbers of workers. They are also known as weavers, and Zapaha tapestries are valued well beyond the peninsula. Nenye Nuuxoo is the only port.
Demographics
The peninsula has about 150,000 inhabitants, all of them Zapaha. Their society is organized much like a single great colony: nearly all Zapaha are female, the queen alone creates new Zapaha, and the few males are raised to replenish the colonies.
The largest settlements are Nenye Nuuxoo (about 15,000), Reke Edhoo (8,000) and Keekale (7,000). There are three large towns, Palgee, Xarraa Eelee and Nerqee, of about 3,000 each, and some 30 small towns of about 1,500. The rest of the population, about 66,000, lives in small cliff colonies.
Transportation
The peninsula has no railways or roads in the human sense. The Zapaha mostly fly, and the settlements are linked by paths. Nenye Nuuxoo, on the east coast, is the only port.
Culture
Zapaha settlements are built as small castles and towers on the cliff sides. Weaving is the most esteemed craft, and tapestries are their principal art.
