Introduction
To the east of Orrakar, where the canyons once stretched toward the sea, lies the drowned realm of Fendralis. Once part of the vast eastern plateaus, the land has been gradually consumed by the tides, leaving behind a fractured labyrinth of sea-worn cliffs, flooded gorges, and half-submerged ruins.
Here, towering stone spires rise from the waters like the bones of a fallen world, and the currents shift unpredictably, creating hidden inlets, vanishing straits, and treacherous mazes of coral and rock. Fendralis is not a true ocean nor solid land—it is something between, a place of both drowning and rebirth.
Geography
Geography & Terrain
The Sunken Reefs of Fendralis are shaped by:
Drowned Canyons – Once part of Orrakar’s easternmost chasms, these deep gorges are now partially flooded, leaving only their highest points as scattered islands. Tidal Channels & Submerged Passages – The sea flows in and out of the reefs, creating unpredictable currents and hidden pathways beneath the surface. Eroded Rock Arches & Wind-Hollowed Spires – Great natural bridges and sheer cliffs still stand, their bases slowly being claimed by the ocean. Vanishing Straits – Certain paths appear and disappear with the tides, accessible only to those who understand the rhythm of Fendralis. Half-Sunken Ruins – Some Drahari cliff-cities remain, their halls now beneath the waves, hiding forgotten histories and relics.
Climate
Fendralis is a realm of light, warmth, and constant motion, where the water is clear and filled with the brilliance of life.
Cultural significance
Fendralis is a symbol of balance, beauty, and the power of even the smallest forces to shape the world.
1. The Drowned Spires (The Sunken Drahari Ruins)
The remains of ancient cliffside dwellings, now partially submerged, with some halls still accessible at low tide. Some believe these ruins still whisper, carrying memories of the past in the echoes of the sea. A dangerous place, as the reefs are home to predatory creatures that lurk beneath the flooded corridors.
2. The Vanishing Strait (A Tidal Channel That Disappears & Reappears)
A narrow waterway that only opens at specific tides, making it a legendary shortcut for those who know its timing. Some say that taking the strait at the wrong moment leads to disappearance, as entire ships have vanished without a trace. Drifting Kutharen and Reef-Striders know when it is safe to pass, but they guard this knowledge fiercely.
3. The Shattered Pillars (Remnants of the Lost Landbridge)
The last remains of Orrakar’s connection to the east, now a series of jagged sea stacks and broken islands. The land once stretched further, but rising tides and time have shattered it, leaving only isolated rock formations. Some Drahari believe that what was lost beneath the waves may one day return, while others say the sea has taken it for a reason.
