Introduction

The Orinilure Mountains are the eastern of the two mountain ranges of Orinilure, lying east of the Orinilure Valley and facing the Irere Mountains across it. The range covers about 50,000 square miles. It is the territory of the Orinilure Collective, whose Oinien live in cavern cities and tunnels beneath it, including the capital, Orinilure City, and the cities of Lirépiel and Avilîché. The two ranges are said to have once formed a single horseshoe-shaped massif.

The range is rich in minerals and is a center of metalworking and engineering. Because they live underground, its Oinien rarely cross the Orinilure Valley, and they have grown apart from those of the Irere Mountains.

Etymology

The range takes its name from the region. Orinilure is Arânzeni in origin and means "land of the booming voice".

Geography

The Orinilure Mountains run north to south.

  • West – The Orinilure Valley, which separates the range from the Irere Mountains. Three rivers, the Nakol, the Bemum, and the Hemom, rise on the western slopes and flow into the valley.
  • East – Arezilur.
  • South – Eliulien Iler, between Orinilure and Arezilur.
  • North – The ocean.

Major Peaks

  • The highest peak in the Orinilure Mountains is Mount Dombortisé (5100 meters), a sacred landmark among the Oinien.

Geology

The Orinilure Mountains is one of the richest mineral regions in Adaris, supplying the Oinien with the resources needed to sustain their subterranean civilization

Formed by ancient volcanic activity, the mountains contain lava tubes, collapsed calderas, and vast underground caverns filled with ore

Settlements

The Orinilure Mountains hold the settlements of the Orinilure Collective.

Economy

Mining and metallurgy

  • The Orinilure Mountains are a major source of iron, copper, silver, and gold.
  • The Oinien forges produce highly sought-after weapons, tools, and armor, known for their exceptional durability and craftsmanship.
  • Smelting Guilds oversee metal purification, ensuring only the highest quality ores are used in Oinien metallurgy.

Trade and commerce

  • The Oinien exchange refined metals for supplies they cannot easily produce underground, such as grain and textiles.
  • Grain grown by the Himoja in the Orinilure Valley feeds much of the range.
  • The Deep Roads link the range to Khamria, running north to Ipierbâni and south to Gareag.

Subterranean agriculture

  • The Oinien rely on cavern farming, cultivating hardy crops such as mushrooms, edible mosses, and lichen-fed livestock.
  • Aquifers and geothermal wells provide reliable sources of water, crucial for both daily survival and industrial use.

Flora and Fauna

The region’s flora consists of resilient, mineral-hardened plants, many of which rely on deep roots, geothermal heat, or symbiotic relationships with the rock itself to survive. The fauna of the Orinilure Mountains is just as tenacious and specialized, with burrowing serpents, cliff-dwelling predators, and subterranean beasts dominating the ecosystem.

Flora

  • Ashbraid Creeper – A deep-rooted plant producing resin with medicinal properties.
  • Thurnspire Cactus – Stores water and blooms golden flowers.
  • Orun-Bark Tree – A rare tree whose wood is dense as iron.
  • Glowlichen – A luminescent fungus found in Oinien tunnels.

Fauna

  • Durnak Beetle – A burrowing insect with an iron-laced shell.
  • Kavran Stalker – A predatory feline camouflaged against the rocky terrain.
  • Zelkor Hawk – A metal-beaked raptor known for its razor-sharp talons.
  • Tholrik Hound – A stone-furred beast revered by Oinien hunters.

Cultural Significance

The Orinilure Mountains are sacred to the Oinien. The mountains and tunnels are the foundation of Oinien heritage, and Mount Dombortisé is honored as an Ancestral Spirit.
