Introduction
The Western Lowlands is a region in Payalwa that encompasses about half of the realm. The region is noted for its large and vast swamps, as well as being the center of Morusi civilization. It is home to both the capital of the League of Payalwa Harrowmere and its largest city, Leban.
History
Pre-Human Times
With the great war of erosion, Payalwa western lowlands were inundated with water. Oras' plan to harden the earth backfired, creating a vast network of swamps and lakes that persist to this day. Here the Ascendant Spirit Tragget first emerged as the spirit of swamps and bogs. He made his home in this region and over time the Olsendi, who also built their civilization here, lived peacefully for hundreds of years before the Morusi arrived in the year 200.
Early Morusi Civilization
Morusi first arrived in what is now the town of Tabe, located in southwestern Payalwa. From here, they rapidly expanded outwards, encompassing most of the Western Lowlands. In it, Morusi quickly adapted to the swamp-like conditions, learning to build on the uneven terrain. It is here they also began being influenced by the ascendant spirit of Moevre, who has served as their main spiritual influence since then.
Geography
Lowlands are largely peat bogs with patches of solid ground interspersed between them. Light forests also dot the region. The land is fertile and a good source of Morusi agriculture.
Cities
The western lowlands are home to most of the Morusi's largest cities. Leban, Harrowmere, Trael, and Monleg are all located within the lowlands.
Climate
The Western Lowlands have a cold climate, with frequent freezing spells.
Flora
Mitratas - A fungus that grows on the borders of swamps. It release spores that can invade a victim killing them slowly. Often cultivated for poison.
Impherals - A flowering plant that is noted for its flaming flower petals that release heat.
Sphagnac - A peat that makes up the vast majority of swamps in the Western Lowlands.
Patho Fruit- A valuable plant that's known for its healing properties.
Fauna
Hesperon - A large bird that is known for its ability to swim rapidly underwater.
Jacas - A lizard creature, it has a venomous bite.
Myriopas - A large inspect. Territorial and known to attack people.
Pantens - Large peaceful mammals who make the swamps their homes. They have wide hooves that allow them to walk on the peat bogs.
Xiphos - Deer like creatures. Herbivores. Hunted regularly for food.
Goverment and Politcs
The Western Lowlands are under the control of the League of Payalwa, the main government for the Morusi people.
Administrative Districts
Administrative districts within the western lowlands are the states of Trael, Leban, half of the state of Falanga, and the Olsendi Reservation.
Demographics
The dominant demographic in the Western Lowlands is the Morusi people with a sizable Olsendi population located on the reservation. Immigrants from other realms make up a minor population in the major cities.
Transportation
The transportation in the western lowlands is by a patchwork network of roads and by boat. Due to the swampy nature of the land and frequent impassable terrains, there are no rail lines in Payalwa. And travel between districts is sometimes challenging.
