Introduction
The Domain of Yairan, commonly called the Last Bastion of Yairan, is a region of Dalel on the continent of Méniail. It is the refuge of Yairan, the Primordial Spirit of Earth, and the only part of Dalel that remains as it was before the Great Erosion. The Domain is surrounded by Khamria and enclosed by the Așdilu Mountains. Entry is forbidden, and its interior has never been explored.
History
Dalel was formed by Yairan as an unbroken and unbounded expanse of stone. During the Great Erosion, water, air, and fire entered Dalel and wore it down. Yairan created the Namuril to defend the realm, but lost almost all of it. The emergence of Konmai, the Primordial Spirit of time, during the same period made the changes to Dalel permanent.
The Great Erosion was ended by the Enarei. Yairan withdrew with the Namuril to the land that became the Domain, and raised the Așdilu Mountains around it as a barrier. The Namuril sealed the Gates of Origin behind them.
Geography
The Domain lies within Khamria. It is enclosed by the ring of the Așdilu Mountains and narrows to the southwest, where it is bounded by the Mazissage Mountains and reaches the Southern Ocean.
The mountains surrounding the Domain have been mapped, but the interior has not. Arânzeni scholars suppose that it consists of featureless plains of solid stone, unaffected by water, wind, or erosion.
Climate
The climate of the interior is unknown. Because water and air are presumed to be absent, scholars describe it as hot, dry, and still, without weather.
Goverment and Politics
The Domain has no known government and is not claimed by any state. Any attempt to enter it is forbidden. The only known entrance is the Gates of Origin, in Lavierin, which have been sealed since before the city was founded. It is not known whether entry is possible. No expedition is known to have entered the Domain and returned.
Demographics
The Namuril are presumed to live within the Domain. They are no longer found elsewhere in Khamria, although sightings are reported and taken seriously.
Culture
The Domain is central to Arânzeni religion. The Arânzeni regard Lavierin, built beside the Gates of Origin, as one of the few places where Yairan can be heard through the stone. Mount Arînzbianz, on the northern edge of the Așdilu Mountains, is held to be the birthplace of the first Namuril, and the nearby sanctuary of Ieriţairan is a center for the study of earth Osia.
Yairan's dwelling is believed to stand at the center of the Domain, on the first piece of earth ever formed.
Native Spirits
Yairan, the Primordial Spirit of Earth, is the only spirit known to reside in the Domain.
