Wardens are the warriors of the four races that the elemental Primordial Spirits created to fight for them in the Great Erosion. The name refers to the warriors of each race, not to the races as a whole.

The fighting ended when Umalyu created the Enarei, beings more powerful than the Wardens, who stopped the conflict. Afterwards the Namuril withdrew with Yairan to the Domain of Yairan, where they are presumed still to live.
