Introduction

Aerbicares are large herbivorous mammals native to the region of Balúrail, distinguished by a single prominent horn projecting from the forehead. They have long been an important source of food for the Mifajene. Once numerous, their populations have declined as a result of human settlement by the Tuzquão.

Etymology

The name aerbicar means "single horn" in Tuzquês.

Description

Aerbicares are large, heavy-bodied quadrupeds with a thick coat of coarse hair. They have long, narrow heads with a slightly convex profile, small eyes, and upright pointed ears. A large horn projects forward and upward from the forehead, with a much smaller horn or bony projection positioned behind it.

The neck is short and thick, merging into a deep chest and broad torso. The back is nearly level, with rounded hindquarters. The legs are relatively short and sturdy, ending in broad feet with hoof-like digits. A thin, moderately long tail ends in a small tuft of hair.

Distribution and Habitat

Aerbicares are found in both the Western Lowlands and Eastern Highlands subregions of Balúrail, although their range has contracted significantly as human settlement has expanded.

Diet

Aerbicares are herbivores.

Mifajene cave art depicting an Aerbicar

The Mifajene have hunted Aerbicares for thousands of years and have relied on them as a staple food source. Depictions of the animal appear in Mifajene cave art found in the eastern foothills of Balúrail.
