The primordial elements came into existence through the interplay of thought and imagination between Daathir and Awenlas. Oras is the spirit of earth, symbolizing stability, endurance, and the solid foundation of all physical forms. It is the ground beneath one's feet, the strength of stone, and the resilience of the natural world.

Tejas represents fire, embodying both creation and destruction. It is the transformative energy that forges new beginnings and consumes the old, a symbol of passion, change, and dynamic power.

Shasae is the spirit of the atmosphere, representing air, breath, and the invisible forces that bind all living things together. It is the wind that moves across the world, the breath of life, and the ever-changing skies.

* Jala: The spirit of Water

Jala embodies water, symbolizing fluidity, adaptability, and the essence of life. It is the rivers, lakes, and oceans that nurture the earth, the rain that brings renewal, and the currents that shape the landscape.

Unlike their predecessors, these spirits did not emerge directly from the Astram, but instead, coalesced over time as the primary elements interacted, forging new domains and concepts within existence.

The Role of Ascendant Elements
The Ascendant Elements serve as bridges between fundamental forces, acting as transitional energies that influence the natural and metaphysical balance of Adaris. While the original Primordial Spirits|Primordial Spirits created the building blocks of existence, these spirits formed the intricate details, shaping the diverse landscapes, phenomena, and concepts that define the world.

Some of these spirits govern natural cycles, such as Arenam’s shifting sands or Thalassor’s control over tides, while others, like Umbrasil, mediate the boundaries between two opposing forces.

The emergence of the Ascendant Elements also led to the creation of unique realms, each blending aspects of their progenitor elements. These spirits continue to shape the land, influence mortal civilizations, and guide the balance between elemental forces.

Osia and the Manipulation of the primordial elements
The manipulation of the primordial elements in Adaris is carried out through the practice of Osia, a mystical art that allows practitioners, known as Osiari, to influence the conscious particles of matter. Each element contains its own form of elemental consciousness, derived from Daathir's mind, which Osiari can tap into. By aligning their consciousness with the elemental spirits, Osiari can influence these fundamental forces in the physical and metaphysical realms.

Osiari train extensively to attune themselves to the specific element they wish to manipulate. Mastery over an element requires not only mental discipline but a deep understanding of the element’s nature and consciousness. Through their mastery, Osiari can influence the world around them—shaping landscapes, controlling natural phenomena, and even affecting the metaphysical realms connected to the primordial elements.

While most Osiari focus on manipulating the physical aspects of these elements, some seek deeper connections to the elemental consciousness, allowing them to influence emotions, thoughts, and even spiritual aspects tied to their chosen element.

The primordial elements

The Primordial Elements are the four substances of the physical world of Adaris: earth, fire, air, and water. Each is embodied by one of the Primordial Spirits, and the element and its spirit are not separate things.

Origin and creation

The elements came into existence through the thought of Umalyu and the imagination of Pavkanai, which shaped the Ákyar of the Napadéh. An element was not made first and a spirit set over it afterward. When Yairan was thought into being, earth was thought into being with him, and the same is true of the other three.

The four Primordial Elements

In order of emergence:

 • Earth – Yairan. Stability, endurance, and the solid foundation of physical forms. His realm is Dalel.
 • Fire – Metihi. Heat and transformation, in both creation and destruction. His realm is Píñáku.
 • Air – Yavi. Wind, breath, and the sky. Her realm is Zayam.
 • Water – Aahi. Fluidity, adaptability, and the rivers, lakes, and oceans. Her realm is Aasila.

The four elemental spirits fought over Dalel in the Great Erosion.

Light, darkness, and time are also embodied by Primordial Spirits (Tñarilu, Náiluv, and Konmai), but they are not counted among the elements.

Osia and the manipulation of the Primordial Elements

The elements are manipulated through Osia, the practice of influencing the conscious particles of matter. Each element has its own consciousness, derived from the mind of Umalyu. By aligning their own consciousness with the spirits of an element, Osiari can influence it.

Osiari train to attune themselves to the element they wish to manipulate. This requires mental discipline and an understanding of the element's nature. Each element has a path named for its spirit: the Path of Yairan, the Path of Metihi, the Path of Yavi, and the Path of Aahi. The paths are human traditions of study and are not inherent in the spirits themselves.

Most Osiari work on the physical aspects of an element. Some seek a deeper connection with its consciousness, which allows them to influence emotions and thoughts tied to that element.

Significance in Adaris

The Primordial Elements are revered throughout Adaris as the substances from which the physical world is made.
