Introduction

The Arânzeni Confederation is a confederation of Arânzeni city-states in the realm of Khamria. Founded in 450 M.E., it occupies the Baviare Vale and also claims the Barerte Waste and the Şire Bişit. Each member city is governed by its own council, while the Council of Lavierin holds ultimate authority over the Confederation as a whole. Its capital and largest city is Lavierin.

History

The Arânzeni arrived in Khamria in 300 M.E. and for the following 150 years lived as loose tribal bands. In 450 M.E., a number of these bands united to form the Confederation. Not all of the tribes joined; tribal groups continue to inhabit the Barerte Waste, outside the Confederation's direct control.

Geography

The Confederation is centered on the Baviare Vale, a highland basin in central Khamria lying between the Așdilu Mountains and the Ilergierze Mountains. The Vale includes the subregions of the Binzir Hills, the Ingur Basin, the Lurțilia, and Vale’s Edge. The Confederation also claims the Barerte Waste, which remains under the control of its tribal inhabitants, and Şire Bişit, which is uninhabited. Settlements throughout the Confederation are connected by the Deep Roads, a network of subterranean passages beneath the mountains of Khamria.

Goverment and Politics

The Confederation is composed of six city-states: Lavierin, Lepigisţil, Yacinţa, Ingur, Ipierbani, and Găreag. Each city is governed by its own council and exercises a degree of autonomy in local affairs. The Council of Lavierin, though formally the governing body of Lavierin, holds ultimate authority over all holdings of the Confederation.

The Council of Lavierin consists of six seats: three held by Yacinsains and three by Guzirias. The Yacinsains are responsible for the maintenance of history, law, and genealogy, while the Guzirias serve as the military order charged with the defense of the Confederation's settlements and lands. Council seats are held until death or withdrawal.

Economy

The economy of the Confederation is based on trade along the Deep Roads, quarrying, and stonecraft. Quarrying is concentrated in the outer districts of Lavierin, while Găreag serves as a center of trade and stonecraft. Agriculture is concentrated in the Ingur Basin, where the city of Ingur serves as the principal agricultural and logistical center of the Vale.

Demographics

The population of the Confederation is predominantly Arânzeni. The Oinien, with whom the Arânzeni maintain a close relationship, are present in many of the Confederation's cities. The Mundari inhabit the mountains surrounding the Barerte Waste and are not under the Confederation's control. The Namuril, who once inhabited the region, are believed to no longer exist, although reported sightings continue to be taken seriously.

Culture

Native Spirits

The spirits associated with the Confederation include Yairan, the Primordial Spirit of Earth; Yala, the Ascendant Spirit of history and memory; and the Ancestral Spirits Mount Arînzbianz, Iorie, and Săilean, the guardian of Lepigisţil. Biseri, the Ancestral Spirit of the Deep Roads, is also revered throughout the Confederation.
