Introduction

Umalyu is the Primordial Spirit of consciousness and the first spirit to emerge in the Napadéh, amid the chaotic energy of Ákyar. It is the first awareness and the first thought in the universe.

Nature and Influence

Umalyu emerged in the Napadéh and became aware of its own existence. In its solitude it began to dream, and from its dreams came Pavkanai, the Primordial Spirit of imagination, who arose from Umalyu as a natural consequence of consciousness. The interaction between Umalyu's consciousness and Pavkanai's imagination gave Ákyar form.

Umalyu is the source of all awareness, perception and thought. Its consciousness is present in every being, object and phenomenon in Adaris.

Relationship with Other Elements

Painting depicting the Birth of Spirits

The other seven Primordial Spirits arose from the interaction of Umalyu's consciousness and Pavkanai's imagination. In order of emergence, they are:

Konmai emerged last, near the end of the Great Erosion. The cause of his emergence is unclear and is usually attributed to the consciousness of Umalyu.

During the Great Erosion, Umalyu created the Enarei, beings powerful enough to stop the fighting. They have not been seen since.

Realm

Umalyu has no realm apart from the others. Because its consciousness is present in all things, Adaris as a whole is its realm.

Osia

Osia is the practice of communicating with the consciousness present in all things and, through it, directing spirits. A Path of Umalyu exists in theory, but none is practiced.

Significance and Worship

Umalyu is the source of a number of religions.

Philosophical Interpretations

Because all beings share in Umalyu's consciousness, some hold that Umalyu subtly directs the flow of events and the actions of all beings. Whether consciousness itself can be mastered is also debated: some regard the pursuit as a path to enlightenment and harmony with the world, while others regard it as dangerous folly that could unravel reality.
