Minthek is the northernmost settlement of the Minthari, a fortified underground outpost honeycombed into the towering slopes of Mount Atal, the highest peak of the Minthal Range. Positioned at a strategic vantage point, it grants Minthari an unparalleled view, through their use of foreign soldiers, of the surrounding regions, allowing them to monitor movements across the northern highlands, the Tearfall Range, and beyond.
Geography
Minthek is carved into Mount Atal’s sheer rock face, with multiple layers of tunnels running deep into the mountain’s core.
The altitude of Minthek makes the surface world nearly uninhabitable, with freezing temperatures, strong winds, and unpredictable rockslides keeping all but the most resilient creatures away.
History
Minthek was established as the northern watchpost, originally serving as a small military outpost for early Minthari scouts. Over centuries, it expanded into a full-fledged subterranean fortress, vital for protecting the northern reaches of the Minthal Range. The Minthari utilize a legion of foreign mercenaries here to be their eyes.
Culture and Society
Life in Minthek is harsh and disciplined, as the settlement is a frontier stronghold rather than a traditional Minthari city. The Minthari who live here adapted to the extreme conditions of the northern mountains.
- Foreign Mercenaries- Due to the need to have watchers for threats, the Minthari have long hired mercenaries to be their eyes. This is perhaps most notable in Minthek where spotters are well respected and utilized.
