Introduction

Namuril are beings of living stone, the warden race created by Yairan during the Great Erosion to defend Dalel. They built the refuges beneath Dalel that later became the Deep Roads. After the Erosion they withdrew with Yairan to the Domain of Yairan, where they are presumed to live still.

Origin and Nature

Yairan created the Namuril in the earliest period of the Great Erosion, when water, air and fire forced their way into Dalel. He did not shape them from nothing. He drew together the consciousness already present in Dalel's stone, gathering layers of geological memory, pressure and resonance until form and awareness became inseparable. Each Namuril is as much an accumulation as a creation.

Namuril are not uniform in shape or nature. Their individuality arises from the mineral composition, geological setting and moment of their formation. Some were formed in seismic upheaval, others in quiet sedimentation, and these differences shape their temperament and perspective as well as their bodies.

Namuril do not experience birth or death in the usual sense; they awaken. Over millennia they may erode, fracture or diminish, yet their essence, held in resonance and stone, persists. Some eventually return to stillness and merge again with the strata from which they came.

Their nature reflects the principles of Yairan's earth: endurance without resistance, form shaped by pressure, and awareness grounded in silence.

History

The Namuril fought for Yairan throughout the Great Erosion. They defended Dalel and built refuges and passages beneath its surface; those beneath Khamria and Orinilure later became the Deep Roads. They also had settlements in the Baviare Vale, and Lavierin is built on one of them.

When the fighting ended, Yairan had lost almost all of Dalel, and the Namuril withdrew with him to the Domain of Yairan. Before leaving the Vale they sealed the Gates of Origin; the Arânzeni who arrived in 300 ME found their structures empty. Outside the Domain the Namuril are gone, though reported sightings are taken seriously.

Biology and Physical Traits

Namuril are made of living stone and stand between 300 and 1,500 cm tall. They are potentially immortal, but subject to erosion and geological decay.

Formation of the Namuril

The earliest Namuril were massive and formless. Over time they refined into diverse, structured forms. Their size and shape depend on their age and on the geological setting in which they formed, and their bodies are shaped by resonance and mineral density.

Abilities and Osia

The Namuril follow the Path of Yairan. Because of their closeness to Yairan, they hold great power over earth, beyond that of human disciples. Their abilities include:

  • Earth shaping – shaping terrain and raising structures.
  • Stone communion – sensing the historical and spiritual memory held in stone.
  • Regeneration – absorbing minerals to repair wear to their bodies.

Culture and Society

Namuril society is organized around memory, endurance and the shaping of stone. Instruction is communal, passed on through oral tradition, echo transmission and engraved teachings. Elders serve as guides, and learning is tied to experience and ritual.

Literature

Namuril literature is preserved through engraved tablets and oral resonance. Texts focus on memory, cycles and the shaping of consciousness.

Umalyu's consciousness gathers in the silent depths.

Yairan awakens, formed of stone.
Dalel stands, shaped by steady breath.
No ornament disturbs its structure, no flourishes distract.

Here, earth and will exist as one, bound in literal creation.

Notable works include:

  • The Songs of Stone – poetic descriptions of shifting landscapes.
  • The Endless Echo – a meditation on geological time.
  • The First Fracture – a historical narrative of the Great Erosion.

Music and dance

Namuril music

Namuril music emphasizes resonance and percussion: large stone drums, monolithic chime pillars that generate tones, and echo flutes, wind instruments that resonate in caverns. Namuril dance is grounded and slow. It embodies geological forces and often reenacts the formation of land, erosion or the flow of mineral memory.

Art

All Namuril art is made of stone, and much of it is functional:

  • Living carvings – sculptures designed to change over centuries.
  • Monolithic murals – memory records carved into walls.
  • Sacred obelisks – landmarks that resonate with ancestral energy.

Sustenance and medicine

Namuril do not eat. They absorb nutrients and energy from mineral substrates through direct contact. Healing is mineral-based: injured Namuril draw minerals into their bodies to repair them, or restore their cohesion through resonant meditation.

Clothing and markings

Namuril wear no textiles. They etch personal markings and embed ornamental stones to show clan, caste or spiritual alignment.

Livelihood

Namuril society has four main callings:

  • Shapers – architects and builders.
  • Keepers – historians and mystics.
  • Guardians – defenders and spiritual sentinels.
  • Geomancers – diviners who read the vibrations of the land.
