The Minthal Range is a formidable mountain range located to the east of the Citadel Mountains in the realm of Terasil. Once forming a singular horseshoe-shaped massif, erosion and time eventually divided the range, creating the Minthal Valley, which now separates the Minthal Range from the Astralith Range.

The Minthal Range is the heart of Minthari civilization, housing their capital, Minthal, as well as major settlements such as Minthara and Minthek. The range is rich in minerals and Minthal Range tunnel networks, making it a major hub of metalworking and engineering. Due to their mostly underground nature, the Minthari of the Minthal Range rarely cross the Minthal Valley, leading to a gradual cultural divergence from their counterparts in the Astralith Range.

Etymology

The name "Minthal Range" comes from its association with metalworking and mining, which define the Minthari way of life. The range is often called the "Forge of Terasil", a name reflecting both its geological history and its cultural significance as the cradle of Minthari civilization.

Geography

The Minthal Range runs north to south, situated between multiple distinct regions:

• West – The Minthal Valley, a vast rift that separates the Minthal Range from the Astralith Range beyond. The valley acts as both a trade corridor and a cultural divide between different Minthari groups.
• East – The realm of Delmora, where numerous rivers originate in the high peaks of the Minthal Range before flowing eastward into fertile lowlands. These rivers provide freshwater sources for Minthari settlements and serve as natural trade routes.
• South – The realm of Orrakar, where Terasil’s rocky plateaus and deep ravines intersect, creating a jagged, arid landscape shaped by erosion and tectonic activity. The Minthal Range marks the northernmost boundary of this rugged terrain.
• North – The range extends towards the Tearfall Range and the border of Norvaskr.

Major Peaks

• he highest peak in the Minthal Range is Mount Atal (15,000 feet), a sacred landmark among the Minthari.

Geology

The Minthal Range is one of the richest mineral regions in Adaris, supplying the Minthari with the resources needed to sustain their subterranean civilization

Climate

The Minthal Range experiences a diverse climate influenced by its elevation, geography, and proximity to surrounding regions. Conditions vary significantly across different parts of the range:

• Western slopes & Minthal Valley (temperate & habitable)
  • More fertile and sheltered, benefiting from underground reservoirs and occasional rainfall.
  • The valley’s microclimate allows for hardy vegetation, making it one of the more habitable areas of the range.
  • Winds from the Astralith Range bring cooler air, creating mild seasonal shifts.
• Eastern slopes & Delmora (colder, wetter, river-Fed)
  • Snowmelt from the high peaks feeds into Delmora’s river systems, making these slopes vital for water supply.
  • The higher elevations experience greater precipitation, often in the form of mist, fog, or light snowfall.
  • Deep ravines and fast-moving streams carve through the landscape, making travel more treacherous.
• Southern border & Orrakar (arid & harsh)
  • The transition into Orrakar’s rocky plateaus results in a much drier, wind-swept climate.
  • Strong thermal updrafts from the canyonlands can create sudden dust storms along the southern ridges.
  • High temperatures in summer contrast sharply with cold desert nights in winter.
• Northern High Ranges & Tearfall Range (Cold, Windy, and Harsh)
  • The northern reaches of the Minthal Range experience stronger winds and colder conditions, gradually merging into the Tearfall Range.
  • Snow is more common at high altitudes, though it does not persist year-round except on the tallest peaks like Mount Atal.
  • Frequent rockslides and ice formations make the upper reaches treacherous.
